Announcing our 2012 Pushcart Prize nominees

And now as I resurface from under my NaNoWriMo rock, it’s time to hit the ground running. That’s why I am happy to announce our nominees for 2012 Pushcart Prize. As this is our first year sending in nominations, we’re stoked to be participating not only this year, but in future years.

Deciding on this year’s candidates was no easy task. Many awesome works appeared this year and it was tough making a choice with so many strong contenders. It would be nice to be able to nominate everyone, but we have to play by the rules. Continue reading

January updates

It’s great to have new work on the website. It took a minute, but we’re in a groove now. I think this may be the last time we see poetry only, as we have some short fiction ready to hit the site next week.

In addition to getting new content up, I made a few tweaks to the website. I cleaned up the guidelines a bit to clarify what rights we request when publishing work. With online publications, the issue of publishing rights can be like swimming in murky water. I thought it important to bring a little clarity to those waters. Continue reading

Happy New Year!

Another year has come and gone. Where did the time go? As we enter 2012, I want to thank the FSP staff, the readers and the authors appearing on our website for helping to make Stepping Stones Magazine: ALMIA a great magazine. We had a great year, and it can only continue to get better. Have a healthy and safe New Year!

Back in the saddle…

If you’re reading this, then I am back in the publisher’s chair rejuvenated from my post-NaNoWriMo vacation. Now that my mental batteries have recharged, it’s time to start thinking ahead to 2012.

Since submitting our nominations for the Pushcart Prize, I am revamping the publishing schedule a bit to be sure that everyone included within a given year has a chance to be nominated. Basically, we will publish work from January 1st to November 1st, so that all works published during that period will be eligible to be chosen as one of our six Pushcart Prize nominees.

Don’t worry, we’re still accepting and reading manuscripts in December. I will also take that month to work on things like site updates, tweaks and other things I try to squeeze in during the year.

Which reminds me, the year is almost over. Where did it go? I do know that this has been a great year and I am looking forward to 2012. I want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. Be safe and keep writing!
